Dear Parents and Teachers:
It doesn't matter whether you're a teacher, a parent, or both... On
this web site, I'm going to show you how to solve defiance, whining,
and all the other "problem" behaviors children and teens use to
drive you crazy! And yes, you can do it all without ever blaming or
punishing them!
Since 1979, I've shown more than two million parents and
educators how to permanently end power struggles while building
positive, healthy relationships with children and teens. I've
written seventeen acclaimed books on positive discipline -- plus I
have seven children of my own (and 20 grandchildren) , so
I've experienced the amazing results of Positive Discipline
firsthand!

I
Was Punished, and I Turned Out Just Fine. An excerpt from "Parents
Who Love Too Much" by Jane Nelsen and Cheryl Erwin"
How fine is "fine"? Fine is relative. Yes, most of us turned out just "fine."
We can laugh at some of the punishments we received as a child--and even say
we deserved them. However, if we had been allowed to learn from our mistakes
instead of being made to pay for them, is it possible we might be even better
than "fine"?
Bus
Behavior. Problems on the bus seem to be a major concern kindergarten
through high school. Look at the behavior on any bus, anywhere in the
world, and you will have a barometer of the development of (or lack of)
internalized social skills, life skills, and social interest.

Changed the way I communicated
Hi Jane,
I would like to thank you for your inspirational talk and workshop
on Saturday the 9th of November. I went home that night and it
changed the way I communicated with my 7 year old daughter! It had a
profound affect on the way I thought about discipline. I have always
followed the assertive discipline approach. I think what you talked
about was on a higher plain.

Class Meeting Success and Theft
This is a fourth grade departmentalized situation. I have two
classes (double time) for Language Arts and I have been given
permission to use the first 15 minutes each day for Positive
Discipline. The students love it. The fellow who is the leader for
the next meeting has had to wait a week because of achievement tests
and he is about to jump out of his skin waiting until this next
Monday when he can be in charge.
Last week a theft was put on our agenda. Everyone in the room
seemed to know who it was but me. I sat there watching what happened
and wondered what I should be doing. I was shocked, apprehensive,
stunned, confused, etc. There was no anger or vengefulness in the
children. They all talked about what they thought the perpetrator
should do. I did tell them that they could not mention any names. No
clear solution came forth--lots of ideas though.
At our break time, the pencil was returned quietly and
nothing else was said. Simply amazing! I don't think that anything
else will be stolen in my room. Who would want to have to sit
through a session like that and listen to your classmates talking
about you that way.
The best part was I didn't have to play detective, get the
parties involved to talk and try to get someone to 'fess up' to the
crime.
