- I have tried everything I know how to do. We
have class meetings every day. We sit in a circle, pass an object around, and
try to find solutions (the kids aren't great at that yet.) My biggest problems
occur outside of the class meetings. I cannot get them to listen to me and some
have been very disrespectful to me and to my co-worker.
Teacher having a difficult time implementing
Positive Discipline
- I have been trying the class meetings for about 15 weeks now.
Some classes have come along okay, but others still say that I need to
take more control of the classroom because they are still not
convinced that the meetings are working.
- I was confused as to the turn
taking in classroom meetings. If the student does not have the
"talking tool," they may not speak and the tool goes around the circle. How can
I ensure that all contributors to solving a problem can be heard, even though
the talking tool has already passed?
- I Was just wondering if your program has components for
high schools as well as elementary and middle
schools?
- My son's table (4 students) was told to leave the classroom
during correction of a test because someone at the table was talking. The
teacher knew who was talking. She told all four students that the guilty party
needed to come forward
and confess or the three non-guilty students needed to confidentially
come forward and tell her who was doing the talking.
- I am a parent of a 5th grader. There are 30 students in this
classroom and the teacher is having a lot of difficulty controlling them. He has
resorted to
punishing the whole class because several of
the students are "misbehaving".
- Because we only have 30 minutes together, it's critical that
the kids arrive on
time. I have one parent who is now considering taking her son out of
the program because of the early start time, and the resulting phone calls from
me when her son is absent/late.
- None of my usual stuff worked and there was
total chaos.
- I need
examples of ways to use Positive Discipline in
the classroom with middle school students. I have 6 periods each day, with 43
minutes each (ridiculous). Class meetings and other strategies need to be
applicable for me in that context. Elementary school teachers ways of
implementing strategies often don't work because of the revolving door/time
problem. Which of your products would help me best?
- I can't believe the teacher did something so cruel to those
children. I personally do not believe in using food as a
reward or punishment for a child's behavior.
- I have two students that
continue to test me and what the consequences
will be.

that class.
- I teach 1st and 2nd grade (combined class). I am having

- Is there any
teaching style (i.e. cooperative classroom vs. traditional teacher
centered classroom) that is more conducive to a disciplined class when students
are lower level and are lacking in the basic social skills? If you feel
that one is better than the other, will you please give a reason for this.
